The Peace Bridge and Ebrington Square have won yet another prestigious award, the Academy of Urbanism’s Great Place Award, which was presented at the 2015 Urbanism Awards ceremony in London today.
Mel Higgins, Ilex’s Chief Executive said: “We are delighted that the Peace Bridge and Ebrington Square have won the Great Place award. This is a significant achievement and yet again demonstrates the regeneration impact both the Peace Bridge and Ebrington Square have made on the city.
I would like to pay tribute to all those involved in the delivery of the Peace Bridge and Ebrington Square in making them such a great success. The bridge has attracted almost 4.5 million crossings since it opened in June 2011, and provided a gateway to Ebrington Square for globally recognised events such as Peace One Day, Radio 1’s Big Weekend and MTV Crashes”.
The Peace Bridge opened on 25th June 2011, followed by Ebrington Square on 14th February 2012. Both projects have become an integral part of the city, and contribute to the ongoing regeneration of the city.
