City focuses on international best practice

1st September 2011

Ilex, the urban regeneration company in partnership with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Local Economic and Employment Development Programme, today held an International Regeneration Seminar on the global approaches to delivering economic and social regeneration. OECD experts shared insights from regeneration projects in Cape Town, Palestine and Barcelona, outlining lessons that can be learnt to achieve inclusive and sustainable prosperity - where workforce skills are increased and improved, our private sector can grow, and inequalities particularly in education, employment and health are reduced.

Gerard McCleave, Ilex’s Director of Strategy and Regeneration explained: “Now that we have the One Plan (One City One Plan One Voice), the focus is on implementation. A total of 11 catalyst programmes are being led by public, private and community sector partners who are keen to ensure that they embed international best practice from the outset”.

Debra Mountford, Senior Policy Analyst said: “The OECD LEED Programme welcomes this opportunity to bring 3 decades of learning and best practice to contribute to delivering successfully a more equitable, sustainable and prosperous Derry~Londonderry. Through this OECD LEED project the city will also share some of its own best practice with a global audience, in particular the unique process of participation in the creation of the One Plan.”

The seminar was held in the City Hotel’s Corinthian Ballroom on Wednesday 31st August 2011.
