The Strategy Board today held a Public Consultation Event on the draft Equality Impact Assessment (EQIA) that has been completed on the city’s draft Regeneration Plan. The EQIA reviews the draft Plan to determine the impacts on members of the nine Section 75 groups and suggests measures to mitigate the impacts.
Speaking at the City Hotel, the Mayor, Councillor Colum Eastwood said “Consultation is the cornerstone of the regeneration process and we are committed to engaging with the Section 75 groups so that we can identify the full impact of the proposals to ensure we address issues of access and disadvantage.”
On behalf of the Strategy Board, Sir Roy McNulty explained “Mainstreaming equality is a guiding principle of the regeneration process and will be central to ensuring the Plan is delivered successfully. The economic outlook for Derry~Londonderry is challenging. However this Plan enables us to do things differently and more effectively, especially in targeting the disadvantaged. The work on the ground in terms of the Citi-Scope process has been exemplary and the focus on equality is what will make the Plan transformative for the city”.
The consultation period on the EQIA closes on February 28th 2011. Copies of the EQIA (172 pages) can be downloaded from www.derrycity.gov.uk/strategyboard. Queries about the EQIA should be addressed to Ilex, tel. 028 7126 9226.
