The city’s Peace Bridge has been shortlisted for the prestigious Engineers Ireland Excellence Awards which are decided by a public vote. The bridge is one of eight projects across Ireland to be shortlisted in the category of Engineering Project of the Year, so it needs everyone’s support by voting for the new foot and cycle bridge.
Brenda Fraser, Ilex’s Director of Development welcomed the news saying: “The Peace Bridge is such an iconic structure for Derry~Londonderry and a symbol of excellence in design and engineering. It is an honour to be shortlisted for the award which showcases engineering at its best, but we must now gather as many votes as possible to bring the award back to the city. So ask your family, friends, colleagues and anyone you know to go online and vote. It is your bridge, so please show your support”.
Sir Roy McNulty, Chairman of Ilex added: “It is truly heartening that the whole community has made the Peace Bridge their own. The bridge is a symbol of hope for the city and this is everyone’s opportunity to ensure it wins this prestigious award”.
